Healthy Monday Tip: Boost Your Energy!
Lose that sluggish feeling by taking five steps to keep from running on empty. Monday’s a good day to start.
Energy is essential in this high-speed world, and finding time to recharge your batteries is difficult. But you may have more control over your energy levels than you think.
Here are five super secrets to keep rolling:
• Drink fluids. Your body needs water to transport oxygen to your cells. Therefore, depriving yourself of sufficient liquids may make you feel tired. Try keeping a bottled of water near you throughout the day.
• Obsess less. When your mind is in overdrive, your body secretes stress hormones, such as cortisol, which over time wreak havoc on your entire system. You’ll also have trouble falling - and staying - asleep. And who feels energized after a poor night’s sleep?
Remind yourself that not every problem is a crisis. This will help you to relax and stay in control of your emotions.
• Eat a series of small meals. Eating consistently—three small meals with snacks in between—keeps your blood sugar levels in check, so you don’t experience the highs and lows that occur when going too long without food.
• Get outside. Spending time outdoors provides a boost by reducing stress hormones. Sunlight can also increase the body’s production of serotonin, which lifts mood and increases energy.
• Move around. The more active you are, the better your circulation, which plays a key role in energy production because blood transports oxygen and nutrients to the muscles and brain. If you have a desk job, do your best to get up about once an hour to keep the blood flowing well.
