10 Healthy Snacks for Holiday Travel
This holiday season, travel experts say five million Americans will take to the skies or hit the road, but no in-flight meals and long stretches of open highway mean your tummy will start growling before you reach the baggage gate or the next restaurant.
Here are 10 snacks that are easy to pack to help satisfy the munchies and keep you and the kids from getting cranky:
• dried fruit, such as apricots or banana chips, and trail mix;
• mandarin oranges and tangerines;
• pita bread with hummus;
• individual applesauce and fruit cup servings;
• baby carrots, paired with sliced cucumbers and cherry tomatoes;• rice cakes with jam or bean dip;
• instant soup cups, such as black bean and split pea (just find some hot water);
• chickpeas in pop-top cans, with salad dressing from those tiny plastic packages;• bagels, sliced and plain;
• cartons of soy and rice milk.
