Think twice about that Salad Bar

Thursday 16th February 2006 - 6:51:50 PM

Think that you are saving some calories when grazing at the salad bar instead of grabbing a burger for lunch? Maybe you should think twice.
Here are some of the culprits to watch our for at your salad counter:

Dressings
Avoid French, Italian and Russian dressing, which contain approximately 65 calories per tablespoon. Don’t even think about that ranch dressing! It has around 90 calories per tablespoon.
Coleslaw
It is hard to believe but a 6-ounce serving can have 150 calories!
Cottage Cheese (regular-full fat)
Those 120 calories per half cup can be pretty hard to burn.
Egg Salad
You should rather forget bacon because only 4-ounce egg salad has 345 calories.
Bacon Bits
Speaking of bacon, one tablespoon will make you burn 30 calories more.
Peas
Half cup contains 70 calories, so use sparingly.
Croutons
Go easy on those tablespoons, each of which contains 20 calories.
Sunflower Seeds
These crunchy toppings have 175 calories per ounce.
